Obituary for Rodney Allen Short

Rodney Allen Short, 83, a resident of Beverly, passed from this life Tuesday, June 11, 2019, at Nella's Incorporated in Elkins.

Rodney was born Wednesday, April 22, 1936, in Bordentown, New Jersey, a son of the late Calvin Allen Short and Roberta Fenimore Short. He was married to the former Sue Iris Rothrock who preceded him in death.

Left to cherish his memory are six nieces and nephews, Deborah Mallow and husband Bill, Rose Phares, Laura Hunt and husband Jim, Donnie Howell and wife Sandy, Doreen Summerfield and husband Danny, and Lisa Howell and fiance Kevin, and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Preceding Rodney in death besides his parents and wife were two siblings, Harry Short, and Georgieanna Howell.

Rodney attended school in Ettra, New Jersey. In the span of eight months, both of his parents died and the age of ten he chose to hitchhike all over the United States and work as a farmer. No matter where he was in the country, every three months he would check in with his sister Georgie. During his travels, he was once picked up along the highway by Loretta Lynn’s tour bus and she gladly gave him her autograph. Rodney gifted the autograph to his sister Georgie, who then gave it to her husband. Her husband, in turn, traded the autograph for a coon dog.

Rodney’s request for cremation will be honored.
