Obituary for Rennay Lynn Smith Worden

Rennay Lynn Worden, 70, a resident of Parsons, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 2, 2019, at Cortland Acres Nursing Home, where she had been a resident for the past three years. Rennay had been in declining health.

Rennay was born on Monday, March 21, 1949, in Parsons, a daughter of the late Hobert Cleveland Smith, Sr., and Louise Liller Smith. On May 18, 1968, in Mentor, OH, she married Gene Dailey Worden, Jr., who survives. They had celebrated 50 years of marriage.

Left to cherish Rennay’s memory is two daughters, Tammy Minnick and husband, Chris, of Morgantown, Melinda Wotring and husband, Jon, of Hambleton, three grandchildren, Jeremy Maxwell and wife, Lindsey, of Fairmont, Caitlin McNemar and husband, Bryan, of Morgantown, and Eliseo Wotring of Hambleton, three great-grandchildren, Gideon, Hadley and Jacob, two brothers, Hobert Smith, Jr., and wife, Pat, of Ashton, MD, Terry Smith and wife, Linda, of Virginia, two sisters, Sandra Defranco of Ohio and Joann Dunn of New Hampshire.

Preceding Rennay in death besides her parents was a brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Carol Smith, and niece, Donna.

Rennay attended Mountaineer High School in Davis and graduated with the Class of 1967. She had worked in Washington, DC as an IBM Key Punch Operator. She loved to sew, enjoyed singing in the chorus, and had a great love for Elvis Presley. A beautiful person inside and out, Rennay loved her family more than life itself. Her love for the Lord could always be seen in her beautiful smile and the way she unconditionally loved others. Rennay loved spending time with her family and sharing her love for the Lord.

Rennay’s request for cremation was honored. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2019, at the First Baptist Church in Parsons at 2 pm with the Rev. Greg Smith officiating. Rennay’s remains will be interred in Rose Hill Cemetery in Thomas. The family has requested memorial contributions be made in Rennay’s memory to Cortland Acres Foundation, 39 Cortland Acres Lane, Thomas, WV 26292.
